Life rune Lebensrune WWII German armband aged

GERMAN Third Reich Era Medical Armband of the NSDAP; Worn by medical personnel at rallies and similar events; the life-rune was also utilized by youth and SA-medical personnel as a sleeve badge.  The Lebensrune or “life rune” was based on the Algiz rune and was used by the Lebensborn, the SS body responsible for the Lebensborn program which supported the “racially, biologically, and hereditary valuable families” of SS members and other “Aryans”. This interpretation of the “man” rune is not based on List, but it occurs as early as the 1920s in the literature of Germanic mysticism,and it came to be widely used within the NSDAP and Nazi Germany, in official prescriptions for the various uniforms of the Sturmabteilung.
